The first card was made for a dear friend whom is experiencing health issues.  Her Irish spirit needed some cheer.

REDOING A FREE FOYER MIRROR WITH SILVER LEAF

 A friend of a friend gave me this mirror for free.  I wasn't happy with the gold.  I was needing a new foyer mirror since I gave my daughter the last one.  It was small enough that it wouldn't take too much time to silver leaf it.

I used post it notes so the glue wouldn't get under the frame.

I used the spray adhesive I had on hand. I would spray the area and then wait about 20 seconds before applying the silver leaf.

I used only 8 of the 18 sheets of silver leaf out of this package.

Notice that I didn't redo the base of the mirror.  You would never see it.

MAKING A NATURAL BIRD NEST

 My friend was reworking her coffee table display and she needed a bird nest.  Here is what I came up for her.  Super easy.  I will be making more of these!

I went out to the backyard and picked up some tree branches that had fallen. I used the glue gun to build the base.

I used preserved moss and Spanish moss to fill in the base.

This literally took all of 15 minutes to make.  It was nice that I have faux robin's eggs in my stash.

VALENTINES CARD 2021

This year's card started with a postcard image found on Pinterest. After I printed it off, I rounded the corners and applied a Paris postmark stamp in the corner. On top of this, I added a bejewled red heart. Using my old fashioned rubber date stamp,I stamped February 14, 2021 onto the card. I printed a Valentine greeting on vellum paper and glued it to the card. The card had such a Victorian feel to it.

ADVENT2020

SPRINKLER SYSTEM INTERRUPTED...

Our sprinkler system went on the fritz. One zone, the front yard just dribbled.  We called the company to come out to fix it.  It was $150.00 the first hour and $125.00 every hour after. Since they couldn’t come out for ten days, the weekend approached.  

Mr. Thrifty  had taken pictures prior to the sod being put down while under construction.  This was a life saver. As he walked the yard, it was mushy.   He honed in on the leak and started to  dig only to find 2 breaks in the lines caused by tree roots.    

Here are the nasty roots removed from the pvc pipes.

The roots were definitely the problem.  We might have future issues with both trees in the front yard. At this point removing them may be our only solution.

The purple adhesive shows the new piping connections.

 

Seven hours later, with a cost just under $15.00 for parts, my hero Mr. Thrifty strikes once again.
